Your child will occasionally have a small task to complete for homework, such as finding pictures for color posters, reading emergent readers that are sent home, etc. You will find information on homework in your child's BEE book, often in the Kindergarten News that comes home at the end of each week.
We will learn sight words and letters weekly. You will receive a "fridge sheet" weekly to hang on your refrigerator and review with your child. It will have our letter and word of the week. It is very important that you practice the sight words we practice in school, which I will keep you up to date with in our newsletter, this website, and the "fridge sheet". Also, whenever your child brings something home to read, please be sure to listen to them read their story.
You can always work on basic math skills with your child, such as counting, simple addition and subtraction concepts, calendar skills, and patterns. You will receive a parent page when we start each new topic - which includes vocabulary, ideas, and games to concentrate on our unit of study.
Also, in addition to materials your child may bring home to read to you, it is critical that you read to your child every day.
The extra practice at home reinforces what we are working on at school and gives your child extra practice, and ultimately, builds your child's knowledge and confidence. Having two young children myself, I understand how busy life is. But please take the time to help your child with any homework. It can also build lifelong accountability and responsibility in their learning.
